Claude Criquelion was born on January 11, 1957. He died on February 18, 2015.

The Belgian rider was an all-round rider who won the World Championship Road Race, other one-day classics, plus had success in the Grand Tours.

Criquelion won the 1984 World Championship Road Race in front of Claudio Corti of Italy and Steve Bauer of Canada.

Criquelion and Steve Bauer met again when they were sprinting toward victory in the 1988 World Championship Road Race and collided. Italian Maurizio Fondriest came around and sprinted for victory. The two later pursued legal recourse as to who was at fault in the race.

Criquelion won the Tour of Flanders Classic in 1987.

In the Grand Tour events, Criquelion was 3rd in the 1980 Vuelta a Espana behind Faustino Ruperez of Spain and Pedro Torres of Spain.
