Eric Vanderaerden was born on February 11, 1961.

The Belgian rider won the Points Jersey in a Grand Tour plus two of the five monuments in cycling.

Vanderaerden won the Points Jersey in the 1986 Tour de France.

In the one-day races, he won the 1987 Paris-Roubaix Classic in front of Patrick Versluys of Belgium and Rudy Dhaenens of Belgium.

Vanderaerden also won the Tour of Flanders Classic in 1985.
