Gerrie Knetemann was born on March 6, 1951. He died on November 2, 2004. The Dutch rider won the World Championship Road Race and twice won his country's one-day classic. Knetemann won the 1978 World Championship Road Race in front of Francesco Moser of Italy and Jorgen Marcussen of Denmark. Knetemann also won the Amstel Gold Race in 1974 and 1985.
