Gianni Motta was born on March 13, 1943.

The Italian rider won a Grand Tour event and the Points Jersey in the event the same year, stood on the podium of another Grand Tour event, and won one of the five monuments in cycling.

Motta won the 1966 Giro d’Italia in front of Italo Zilioli of Italy and Jacques Anquetil of France.

Motta also won the Points Jersey the same year.

In addition, Motta was 3rd in the 1965 Tour de France behind Felice Gimondi of Italy and Raymond Pouilor of France.

Motta also won the Tour of Lombardy Classic in 1964.
