Carlos Sastre was born on April 22, 1975.

The Spanish rider stood on the podium multiple times in the Grand Tour events, including one victory.

Saste won the 2008 Tour de France in front of Cadel Evans of Australia and Denis Menchov of Russia.

Sastre was 3rd in the 2006 Tour de France behind Oscar Pereiro of Spain and Andreas Kloden of Germany.

Sastre was also 2nd in the 2005 Vuelta a Espana behind Denis Menchov of Russia.

Sastre was 2nd in the 2007 Vuelta a Espana behind Denis Menchov of Russia.

Sastre was also 3rd in the 2008 Vuelta a Espana behind Alberto Contador of Spain and Levi Leipheimer of the USA.

In addition, Sastre won the Mountains Jersey in the 2000 Vuelta a Espana.
