Roberto Heras was born on February 21, 1974.

The Spanish climbing ace won the Vuelta a Espana three times.

Heras was also 2nd once, 3rd once, and won the Points Jersey once.

Heras won the 2000 Vuelta a Espana in front of Angel Casero of Spain and Pavel Tonkov of Russia.

Heras also won the 2003 Vuelta a Espana in front of countrymen Isidro Nozal and Alejandro Valverde.

In addition, Heras won the 2004 Vuelta a Espana in front of countrymen Santiago Perez and Francisco Mancebo.

Heras was 2nd in the 2002 Vuelta a Espana behind Aitor Gonzalez of Spain.

Heras was also 3rd in the 1999 Vuelta a Espana behind Jan Ullrich of Germany and Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano of Spain.

In addition, Heras won the Points Jersey in the 2000 Vuelta a Espana.
