Steve Bauer was born on June 12, 1959.

The Canadian rider stood on the podium of the World Championship Road Race and stood on the podium of the Paris-Roubaix Classic.

Bauer was 3rd in the 1984 World Championship Road Race behind Claude Criquelion of Belgium and Claudio Corti of Italy.

Criquelion and Bauer also fought it out in the 1988 race where Criquelion crashed into the barriers and Italian Maurizio Fondriest came out the victor. Criquelion and Bauer were embattled in a legal dispute over the race for years.

Bauer was 2nd in the 1990 Paris-Roubaix Classic losing to Belgian Eddy Planckaert by the width of a tire.
